What to Expect: Couples

A brief overview of what our work together may look like, from your first session through to building lasting change.

A calm, supportive, and structured space

Every couple's story is different, so sessions are tailored to your relationship and goals. You'll be supported in a calm, respectful environment where both people have the opportunity to speak, be heard, and feel understood.

Getting to know your relationship

During the first one or two sessions, I'll ask questions to understand your relationship, what's brought you here, and what you'd like to be different. We'll explore your relationship history, important life experiences, family backgrounds, and sometimes childhood experiences, as these can shape how we communicate, respond to conflict, and connect with those we love.

Understanding what sits beneath the surface

As we build a picture together, we'll begin to notice the patterns that keep you feeling stuck. Rather than focusing on who's right or wrong, we'll explore the emotions, needs, and protective responses beneath the conflict, helping each of you better understand yourselves, each other, and the dynamic between you.

Learning new ways to communicate

You'll be guided through practical tools and structured conversations drawn from Imago Relationship Therapy and Nonviolent Communication. Rather than simply talking about your relationship, you'll practise new ways of listening, speaking, and responding during each session. Lasting change comes from applying these skills in everyday life, so you'll usually leave with practical exercises or conversations to continue practising between sessions.

Space for both perspectives

My role isn't to judge, take sides, or decide who's right or wrong. I'm here to help both of you feel heard while gently guiding conversations that build understanding, empathy, and connection.

Growing Together

We'll regularly review what's working, what's still feeling challenging, and adapt our work as your relationship grows. Every couple's journey is different, and we'll move at a pace that feels right for you.

What to Expect: Individuals

A brief overview of what our work together may look like, from your first session through to building lasting change.

We'll begin by getting a sense of your background, what's bringing you to sessions, and what you'd like to understand or change. This gives us a fuller picture of what's happening and helps us identify the patterns that may be playing out in your relationships.

You might be navigating a difficult relationship, struggling with communication or boundaries, trying to understand recurring patterns, or wanting a clearer sense of what you need and how you want to respond.

Together, we'll explore the emotions, needs, beliefs and responses beneath what's happening, helping you develop greater self-awareness and a clearer understanding of your relational patterns.

Sessions are structured and practical rather than simply being a space to talk. I'll draw on many of the teachings, exercises and tools I use in my couples work, adapting them to your individual circumstances.

We may work through practical exercises, questions and worksheets to help you develop new insights, explore different perspectives and practise new ways of communicating, setting boundaries and responding.

Together, we'll slow things down, make sense of what's happening, and work towards practical ways forward that feel aligned with your needs and the relationships you want to build.

My Approach

A serene beach scene with clear blue water gently lapping the sandy shore, surrounded by lush green trees and hills in the distance, under a blue sky with faint clouds.

My work is grounded in the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT), which provide practical frameworks for understanding ourselves, communicating with greater awareness, and creating more connected relationships.

My approach is direct, compassionate and balanced. I believe meaningful change requires both safety and honesty. It also requires a willingness to look at ourselves, try something different and keep practising even when the old patterns are easier.

I believe real change starts with understanding, but understanding on its own isn’t enough. Changing the way we behave in our closest relationships is hard work. Really hard work. It takes practice, courage, discipline and a healthy dose of grit, particularly when we’re triggered, hurt or falling back into patterns that have been with us for years.

Very few of us were taught how to do this. We can understand our patterns intellectually and still find ourselves doing exactly the thing we said we wouldn't do five minutes later. Knowing what we should do and actually being able to do it when it matters are two very different things.

That’s why I don't shy away from gently naming patterns, behaviours or dynamics that may be getting in the way of connection. I may pause a conversation, slow things down, ask a challenging question, or bring attention to something that might be difficult to see from within the relationship. I do this with care and curiosity, not judgement.

In couples work, I hold space for both perspectives while helping each person look at their own experience and contribution to the dynamic. My role isn't to take sides or decide who's right or wrong, but to help you understand what is happening between you and create the conditions for something different.

In individual sessions, I bring the same balance of warmth and challenge, drawing on the teachings, exercises and practical tools I use in my couples work and adapting them to your circumstances.

You can expect to feel supported, but also thoughtfully challenged. My aim is to create a space where you can be real about what's happening, develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships, and leave with practical ways to move forward.

Because creating a deeply fulfilling relationship isn't easy. It takes understanding, willingness, practice, discipline and grit. And you don't have to figure out how to do all of that on your own.

"Cor" is Latin for "heart,"

And the root of the word courage.

Deep relational work begins with a courageous heart.

Hard seasons do not define your relationship.

From within darkness comes light and a new day
